The Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction: Foundations Program is a less extensive MBSR course designed to provide you with the essential MBSR concepts and techniques to increase your resiliency and enhance your health and well-being. You will learn:
- How stress phenomena operate in the brain and nervous system and how mindfulness helps you influence stress regulation.
- How to experience mindfulness as a state of being and how this is related to the optimal nervous system state of flow.
- How to enhance your quality of attention, your ability to focus, and your curiosity about things you normally take for granted.
- How to work intelligently with situational reactivity as well as chronic mind/body states.
- How to use a variety of formal and informal mindfulness meditation techniques to relax the body, clarify the mind, and increase insight and creativity.
Each session will be a balance of didactic information, experiential practices, and group discussion. The core of the MBSR learning process comes through your direct experience of formal and informal mindfulness exercises and daily homework between sessions will be emphasized. You will be given a workbook and a series of meditation audio files to support this aspect of the program.
