Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT)

With Pamela Mirsky, M.D., FACLP

Wednesdays, January 29 thru March 19th , from 2:00 to 4:00 pm  $650

MBCT is an intervention designed for individuals with a history of depression. It is also beneficial for those who experience stress or anxiety. Combining the concepts of cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) with principles of mindfulness, it is one of the most widely used and researched mindfulness-based approaches. MBCT was developed by Zindel Segal, Mark Williams and John Teasdale, and is based on Jon Kabat-Zinn’s Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) program. The approach teaches a new way of relating to thoughts, feelings, and body sensations. This new way of relating to experience offers an alternative to the automatic routines that have been perpetuating difficulties.

Clinical research has demonstrated MBCT to be as effective as antidepressants in reducing relapse of depression, with the added benefit of enhancing your own innate ability to heal.

MBCT is an eight-week program that meets for two hours a week, with about one hour of home practice daily. It requires a lot of commitment, but is very rewarding.

If you are interested in enrolling, please contact us to schedule an initial interview with Dr. Mirsky. This time with Dr. Mirsky serves as an introduction session and helps ensure that you and the program are a good fit.
