In this fascinating exploration of the spine as a universal touchpoint we will view the spine from many perspectives; all the while weaving these new perspectives into experiential practices of asana, pranayama, and meditation.  At the heart of this is a new understanding of a complete, natural, unrestricted breath and way of being.  As well as a new appreciation of Yoga and its relevance as a spiritual orientation to life.

In these six weeks:

  • Yoga will be studied as more than just a physical exercise. We will look at the significance of our skull, spine, brain and spinal cord which comprise the central nervous system. We will study, breathe, and move our spines as our own living tree of life.
  • We will weave together and explore myth, human physiology, Yoga Sutra philosophy, Western Psychology, breath and asana (movement)
  • Specifically, we will explore two great Vedic myths:  Samudra Manthana/churning of the milky ocean, and Kalpa Viriksha/ the wish fulfilling tree. These will be used to help us understand the nature of the human mind.
  • We will dive into mystical anatomy, specifically how it harmonizes with physical anatomy: One such example is studying the cranial sacral system and working the spinal pump while breathing and moving.
  • We will explore Yoga – originally, an Eastern Tradition and discover how it is compatible with and indeed supportive of Yoga as practiced in the Western (occidental) culture. Joseph Campbells’ work on Mythos will be a launching point for our studies.

Along with our six sessions there will be optional evening gathering on Fridays January 17, February 7 & 21 at no extra fee.
