Our Fall Immersion is dedicated to exploring the form, function, and essence of classical yoga postures through the teachings of Rama Jyoti Vernon, one of the modern matriarchs of Yoga in the United States.
Form: Learn the principles of bio-mechanics and bio-tensegrity, as well as the practice of sva-dharma, personal discernment about your body’s present moment signals.
Function: Expand your sense of what each posture is offering physically, physiologically, and towards nervous system regulation.
Essence: Begin merging left and right brain experience to enter into the realm of imagery, symbolism, and life force energy. This is where yoga becomes what is called sadhana, more than physical exercise.
One of Rama’s great gifts was her understanding of the whole yoga tradition and how to weave the physical and the philosophical together. Drawing from her text Yoga: The Practice of Myth & Sacred Geometry we will cover a full set of foundational “asanas”, treating each one as a meditation as well as well as parts of a progression toward more expansive states of being. In Rama’s words Yoga is not about union, as we are innately whole. It is the inward practice of clearing obstructions from the wholeness that always is.
Each week will involve teachings and discussion of important yoga concepts and principles at the outset, move towards an immersive experiential practice, and complete with ideas for incorporation during the week. Different than a general class, practice may involve posture demonstrations and interactive exercises, workshop style . Each week there will be assigned readings, and suggestions for home-practice and reflection.
New and experienced yoga students and teachers interested in physical/meditative yoga are welcome together.
For teachers seeking continuing education credits, full attendance and a capstone project will be required. Please contact us with and questions you may have.
