The hype around yoga is true. It is a compelling exercise and strengthener of the mind/body/spirit connection. Yet, you have to find your yoga fit. This adaptive yoga series welcomes those who have limited mobility, as well as those who have concerns about the expectations of a general group class. We will use the wall, chair, and various props creatively to adapt basic yoga poses and practices. Emphasis will be on sitting and standing rather than getting up and down from the floor. The atmosphere will be meditative and encourage mindfulness and self-compassion rather than physical exertion. In this series you will:
—Learn the fundamentals of breath awareness and breath extension; better breathing is considered the key to health.
—Explore the art and science of relaxation and body sensing; improved nervous system tone helps you feel more engaged in life.
—Enjoy movement anew by finding the right rhythm and range for a variety of common yoga poses. Less intensity is more effective!
—Learn simple meditative yoga techniques for mood and mental stability: mudra, mantra, visualization, affirmation.
