Second Sunday Circle Discussion for this month:

This Sundays talk and discussion will be a comparison of three spiritual paths and the ideal goals they aspire to. Carl Jung’s vision of human nature is organized around the central process of Individuation — the life-long effort to integrate the conscious and unconscious energies of our psyche — navigating a narrow path between our social programming and the archetypal drives in the collective unconscious part of our mind. The goal is wholeness, becoming as complete a person as we can. The result of completely living the 12 steps of Alcoholics Anonymous is a “spiritual awakening” by surrendering our life to the god of our understanding. The practices of Zen Buddhism lead to a version of awakening sometimes referred to as arriving at the “Dharma-Body.”

The Second Sunday Circle is a monthly gathering to explore diverse topics relating to spiritual perspective, path, and practice in an experiential and conversational format. Long time and brand new sol center friends are welcome.

John Dore is a retired professor of Psychology, Literature and Linguistics. He’s a psychotherapist specializing in addictions, family issues and “spiritual emergencies,” based on Jung’s version of psychoanalysis. He’s the author of several research monographs and chapters in handbooks on child development, life-span issues and disabilities. He has recently taken refuge and vows, becoming ordained as a lay practitioner in the Rinzai lineage of Zen Buddhism.
