The Yoga Sutras of Patanjali are one of the most significant source texts of the Yoga Tradition.  They offer a profound understanding of consciousness and the means to expand and free consciousness from self-imposed limitations.    The third chapter is called Vibhuti Pada and details the various fruits of higher meditative development.  While it’s practices and claims are the stuff of yoga lore,  with a good guide its concepts can be understood by even beginning yoga students. Likewise, for those that have practiced for years, the exploration of this chapter provides more context for the inner arts experience.  As the daughter of two physicist parents, and the intimate student of Rama Jyoti Vernon, who devoted her life to the full exploration of both the mystical and practical teachings of Yoga, Ann is the perfect guide to help us study this special section of the text.

Ann Wagoner received her Master in Ayurveda at Mount Madonna Institute’s College of Ayurveda where she also researched Ayurvedic treatments and herbs for the prevention of cancer recurrence. She is a member the National Ayurvedic Medical Association, Yoga Alliance and the International Association of Yoga Therapists. She brings together Ayurveda and Yoga, two sister sciences, to expand understandings of mind, body and consciousness. Ann also has a B.A. in Philosophy from Earlham College, and a M.A. in Liberal Studies from New York University.

Ann has trained with many Doctors of Ayurveda from India and Nepal (BAMS), including Vasant Lad,  R. H. Singh, Sarita Shrestha, Vivek Shanbhag, Hari Pallathery, P.H. Kulkarni, John Douillard and Shekhar Annambhotla among others.  Ann has also studied yoga and Patanjali’s yoga sutras extensively with Rama Jyoti Vernon, a Divine Yogini & international Woman of Vision. Ann was trained in the ISHTA style of yoga with Alan Finger in New York City and with Sraddha Sagar at 7 Centers Yoga Arts in Sedona. She teaches Yoga at the Sol Center and at Portland Community College. And she offers Ayurvedic consultations virtually and in person in Portland.

Ann has taught Ayurvedic workshops and cooking classes throughout Portland and loves to share the power of healthy, local food with people where ever they are.   She continues to work on various publishing projects related to Yoga & Ayurveda, as well as organizational involvements that help promote Yoga & Ayurveda as alternative/complimentary health care.  She currently lives in Portland with her husband and new cat, Myron.
